Fire Safety Programs

The Park Forest Fire Department has been teaching a fire safety & burn prevention course in the 3rd and 4th grade levels in Park Forest schools since 1988. The course is taught by firefighters once a week in each classroom for 50 minutes. Eight objectives are presented to the students over a 7-8 week period. The objectives include: the history of firefighting, the science of fire, escaping home fires, home fire drills, fire hazard identification, the consequences of juvenile fire-setting, home alone safety and burn prevention. During the course, students get an opportunity to escape a simulated home fire in our fire safety trailer.
