The Park Forest Commission on Human Relations is kicking off Black History Month with an initiative designed to support the community and promote local businesses.
The "Business Passport" campaign specifically highlights Black-owned businesses throughout the Village, encouraging residents to shop local and celebrate entrepreneurship.
Community Relations Manager Evelyn Randle emphasized that this incentive program not only aims to generate foot traffic for local businesses but also offers opportunities for residents to win prizes. The Business Passport will serve as a comprehensive local guide, detailing which businesses are participating and outlining the variety of engaging weekly activities available.
"The goal is to promote our diverse range of businesses here in Park Forest while fostering community engagement," Randle stated. "From self-care boutiques to family-owned restaurants and auto body shops, our businesses bring unique offerings to the community—but they rely on our support to thrive."
Each week will introduce a new challenge designed to encourage residents to interact with local establishments. For example, during the first week of the campaign, residents are invited to explore a participating local eatery, enjoy a meal, and then share their dining experience on the Village's official Facebook page. Participants are also encouraged to provide a detailed review of their experience.
Once they complete these activities, residents can submit proof—such as a screenshot of their post or a copy of their receipt—via email to Randle. By doing so, they will automatically be entered into a drawing for a chance to win various prizes. These include a $25 gift card to a local business of their choice, a gift bag filled with Park Forest merchandise, and a complimentary dinner for two at one of the participating businesses, valued at $50.
Randle said this campaign not only aims to celebrate Black History Month but also highlights the importance of supporting the local economy, creating a vibrant community that thrives through collaboration and active participation. To access the Business Passport, click here
