The Park Forest Police Department and Dunkin' Donuts will again participate in the annual Cop on a Rooftop program on Friday, May 17.

It's the 21st anniversary of the Dunkin' and Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois partnership, raising more than $8.7 million across the state.

This year's event is scheduled for May 17, from 5 a.m. to noon, at Dunkin' Donuts, 431 W. 14th St., in Chicago Heights, near the intersection of Western and Lincoln.

Park Forest Police Chief Brian Ryzki is hopeful with the warm weather in the forecast for Friday that, the community will come out and support.

"Residents can make donations, no matter how small or large, and buy T-shirts or hats," Ryzki said. "With every donation, you'll receive a free donut. A $10 donation receives a free thermal coffee mug with the Special Olympics and Dunkin’ logos and a coupon for a free medium coffee."

Ryzki said it's the community's support that makes all the difference.

"We simply would not exist and could not perform our mission without our residents," Ryzki said. "Residents can also hang out with PFPD sworn and civilian staff."

Ryzki noted the Park Forest Police Department has a long history of supporting Special Olympics Illinois events. In addition to Cop on a Rooftop, the Park Forest Police Department has also participated in the Polar Plunge, the Plane Pull, the Truck Convoy, and the Torch Run.

"The relationship between Law Enforcement and Special Olympics is near to all of our hearts," Ryzki said.

Ryzki added that Park Forest Police don't set a fundraising goal for Cop on a Rooftop but usually raise between $1200 and $1800 at the event.
