Physical copies of this year’s Discover Magazine are being mailed to Park Forest residents.
Communications Coordinator Joshua Vinson said that some residents have already received their copies.
"We began delivery last Monday, Dec. 22,” Vinson said. “Some residents may not have received their copy yet due to the Christmas holiday."
Vinson continued, “We’re excited about all the content in the latest version of Discover Magazine. For those who haven’t received their physical copy yet or prefer the digital version, it’s now available online.”
The 40-plus-page publication provides residents with an in-depth look at Village government, community initiatives, and major projects that are shaping Park Forest. It serves as both an informational guide and a community showcase, covering topics that range from civic engagement and public safety to infrastructure improvements and long-term planning.
This year’s magazine features the 2026 Annual Community Calendar in the centerfold. The tear-out calendar lists Village meetings, events, and important dates throughout the year, helping residents save and display it as a convenient reference.
This year’s cover story focuses on the Cut-Thru Crew, a resident-led volunteer group that restored Park Forest’s historic pedestrian cut-through pathways. The story details how volunteers turned a simple idea into a grassroots effort, meeting weekly to clear brush, remove debris, and clear out all 34 cut-throughs across the Village in just a few months. The article highlights how civic pride, community collaboration, and support from the Village’s Public Works Department fueled the project’s success.
The magazine also presents a mayor’s message from Village President Joseph A. Woods, who addresses several issues important to residents, including property taxes, conditions at Autumn Ridge Apartments, the reconstruction of Forest Boulevard, and the future of the Park Forest Aqua Center. Feature stories throughout the magazine further explore many of these topics.
Additional articles introduce new Village leadership, including Village Manager Jon Kindseth, spotlight advancements in public safety such as the Park Forest Police Department’s drone program, and update major capital investments and financial planning. The magazine also spotlights new downtown businesses, highlights the Park Forest Fire Department leadership promotions, and presents the Civic Leadership Academy, which prepares residents to actively engage in local government.
Mailed to every household, Discover Magazine aims to be both informative and practical, giving residents a clearer understanding of how the Village operates and the resources they can access year-round.
