The Village of Park Forest's summer edition of Discover Magazine is set to arrive in residents' mailboxes by mid-July.
Currently, residents can read the digital version on the Village's website for a sneak peek. Communications Coordinator Joshua Vinson stated that the 40-page magazine features highlights from every department, with the cover story focusing on the Village's ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
"All across town, you'll see those orange construction signs," Vinson noted. "They signify the Village's investment of grants and tax dollars to improve its infrastructure."
Vinson also mentioned that the magazine will include several feature stories, including one about Park Forest Fire Department Lieutenant Elizabeth "Bess" Vlahakis. This article will highlight her accomplishments and explore how she has been described as a "trailblazer" by leadership within the fire department.
Additionally, the magazine contains a four-page article explaining the reasons for the Park Forest Aqua Center's closure during the 2025 season and details the work being done to prepare it for the following year.
With ongoing discussions about taxes in Park Forest, this edition will include an article by Assistant Finance Director Sharon Floyd, who will provide a breakdown of the Village's budget and highlight a surplus and growing reserves.
"This magazine also connects with the school districts that serve our community—District 227 and District 163—highlighting the accomplishments of the boys' basketball teams," Vinson stated. "Rich Township's boys' team ranked fourth in the state, and Park Forest's very own Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts won the state title."
Vinson added that after discussions with the publisher, B Allen Graphics, Discover Magazine is expected to reach mailboxes in Park Forest between July 11 and July 18.
