Three Rich East seniors and three Rich South seniors recently teamed together to each win a $1,000 college scholarship at the recent Financial Literacy Bowl, sponsored by the Illinois College Advising Corps and was hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago campus.
The Rich East students were Jakari Lowe-Ellis, Dazzo Wilnewic and Lakeya Woods. The Rich South students were Angel Barns, Brandi Marks and Karlito Richardson. They competed against nearly two dozen Illinois high schools and won the tournament.
"This is a great collaborative effort and a bright moment for Rich Township High School District 227," said Rich East principal, Mark Kramer. "They were aligned today. They combined as a team to win the competition. Great job."
Lowe-Ellis plans on attending Southern Illinois University-Ewardsville, Wilnewic plans on attending North Central College and Woods plans on attending Governor's State University. The District program is sponsored by Rich East alumnus Taimane Walls, who serves as the College Adviser for the Rich Township schools.
