Precautionary boil advisory to be issued for area near Fir and Forest, April 12

The Park Forest Public Works Department is issuing a precautionary boil advisory in the area of Fir Street and Forest Boulevard for Wednesday, April 12, beginning at approximately 1 p.m. and remaining in place through -- at earliest -- late afternoon on Thursday, April 13 pending test results of water samples.

During this time there will be periods of low or no water pressure in the area of Fir Street and Forest Boulevard which will impact numerous multi-family units including cooperatives, senior living centers, and downtown businesses. Residents in single-family homes, adjacent to these impacted areas, could potentially see discoloration and/or low pressure in their water as a result of this work and are also under the precautionary boil advisory.

A precautionary boil advisory means that residents should boil tap water for 5 minutes if it is to be used for drinking or cooking. This precautionary boil advisory does not mean that the water is contaminated. There is no known public safety threat at this time. However, because the quality of the water is unknown pending laboratory verification, residents should take precautions.

Residents will notified when the precautionary boil advisory has been lifted via a CodeRed message to your phone line or email address, for resident enrolled in the CodeRed system. For residents, not enrolled in the CodeRed system, who the Village cannot notify via phone or email, information related to the lifting of the precautionary boil advisory will be posted to the Village's website, villageofparkforest.com.

For updates, please also visit the Village's website at villageofparkforest.com or call the Public Works Department at 708-503-7702 during normal business hours.

Lead Advisory
As a result of the Flint, Michigan water crisis in 2016, new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements mandate that municipalities must notify residents of the possibility of lead, even in the smallest of numbers, that can result from water main repairs.

Therefore, residents are also advised that water main work may result in sediment, possibly containing lead, that could be present in water for a short period of time following completion. To mitigate any risks, after the completion of work, residents are urged to run their cold tap water for 5 minutes to flush their line and remove any aerators or screens from faucets and clean them of any possible sediment. Information regarding the hazards of lead in drinking water may be found on the Villages web site or the EPA’s website at www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/basic-information-about-lead-drinking-water.
