The Village of Park Forest will begin a sanitary sewer rehabilitation project on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the community’s aging infrastructure and ensure reliable wastewater service for residents.
According to Public Works Assistant Director Nick Christie, the project will last approximately three weeks and involve work in several residential areas, including Cunningham Street (north of Lakewood), Fir Street, Juniper Street, Krotiak Road, Forest Boulevard, and Norwood Boulevard.
“Much of our underground infrastructure has been in service for decades,” Christie said. “This project is part of our ongoing maintenance program to extend the life of our sewer system and prevent costly emergency repairs down the road.”
During the rehabilitation process, crews will set up temporary bypass pumping systems to allow wastewater to flow while the sewers are being repaired. Residents will notice several ramps crossing the roads where large hoses are placed for this temporary setup.
“These ramps are necessary so that the hoses used for bypass pumping don’t interfere with traffic or driveway access,” Christie explained. “They’re a short-term inconvenience that allows us to safely and efficiently complete the work.”
While construction activity and minor traffic disruptions are expected, Christie expressed that access to homes will remain open throughout the project. He also encouraged residents to be cautious when driving near work zones and to watch for construction crews and equipment.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete this important work,” Christie said. “Investing in our sewer infrastructure today helps us maintain a higher quality of service and avoid larger issues in the future.”
The Department of Public Works expects to complete the project by mid-December, weather permitting.
