The Village of Park Forest is currently accepting applications for the 2025-26 offering of the Park Forest Civic Leadership Academy — a transformative, nine-month program designed to foster civic engagement and connect residents with the inner workings of local government and community leadership. The first session of the program is Sept. 5.
The Park Forest Civic Leadership Academy offers participants an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how Park Forest operates—introducing them to current and emerging leaders across sectors while deepening their understanding of local issues. This highly interactive and educational program provides a platform to engage in thoughtful dialogue around community priorities including education, housing and social equity, arts and culture, recreation, and economic development.
“This program is about empowerment through knowledge, networking and exposure,” said Assistant Village Manager Jason Miller. “Whether you're a student, a working professional, a retiree, new to the community or a long-time resident, the Park Forest Civic Leadership Academy offers something for anyone passionate about learning more about Park Forest and making it a better place.”
Participants in the Academy will:
- Develop critical thinking skills to help solve real community challenges
- Engage in meaningful conversations with civic leaders and fellow residents
- Expand their personal and professional networks
- Gain valuable exposure to local organizations and resources
- Build their resumes with leadership training and professional development hours
Who Should Apply?
- High School Students: With approval from their school guidance office, students may receive excused absences one Friday per month to attend. Participation strengthens college applications and signals a commitment to leadership.
- Newer residents: Are you interested in better understanding your new community and meeting more of your new neighbors? The Civic Leadership Academy experience provides that opportunity.
- Working Professionals: Employees may be able to count participation as professional development hours with employer approval, making this a career-advancing opportunity.
- Retirees and Seniors: Retirement is often a new beginning. The Academy is a powerful way to reconnect with the community and explore ways to give back.
