Recreation, Parks & Community Health Director Kevin Adams says the Village of Park Forest is exploring options to address the Park Forest Aqua Center repairs.
Adams pinned a note on the department's Facebook page to address the facility's future. In the message, he said officials are weighing their options as the Aqua Center needs repairs.
"As many of you are aware, the 2024 season was a challenging one for the facility," Adams said in the post. "Recent inspections have revealed the need for significant repairs to our pools. These repairs are essential to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our members."
Adams continued, "At this time, the Village is actively assessing the scope of the repairs and associated costs. While assessing the needs of the facility, the Village is also exploring ways to add features that will expand the services and excitement the Aqua Center offers. Unfortunately, until we have a clearer picture, we cannot definitively confirm whether the Aqua Center will be able to open for the 2025 season."
The Park Forest Aqua Center has a myriad of infrastructure issues within the pools that will likely range between $300,00.00 to $500,000.00 to repair.
Adams mentioned that the Parks team's skills have enabled the Village to handle minor repairs in-house for many years. However, due to the age and wear of the facility's pools, significant renovations are now necessary to ensure the Park Forest Aqua Center's longevity and safety.
Over the summer, the Illinois Department of Public Health issued a Request for Qualifications to pre-qualified architects, inviting them to submit proposals for a feasibility study. This study aims to ascertain the cost of necessary repairs and explore the possibility of incorporating additional features within a specific facility budget.
