Beautification Awards Committee accepting nominations beginning June 1

On Saturday, the Village of Park Forest Beautification Awards Committee will start accepting nominations for the 2024 Beautification Awards.

Residents can nominate up to six properties in each form entry until June 21. Forms are accepted in person at the Department of Recreation, Parks & Community Health at Village Hall or online. Beautification Committee Chair Susan Blatchford said it's an excellent way for Park Foresters to embrace the community.

"The Beautification Awards Committee has been around for over 50 years," Blatchford said. "Judges aren't looking for people to spend thousands of dollars to be nominated. We're looking for well-kept homes that add value to the Village."

Blatchford said judges look for homes that continue maintenance, reflect care, and enhance the neighborhood. She added that landscaping should be in good health. Blatchford said flowers are nice but aren't needed to win the award.

"We're looking for homes in good repair," Blatchford said. "House numbers must be present on the home and unobstructed. Again, we're not looking for people to spend tons of money to be considered."

Blatchford reminded residents that ordinance violations will result in disqualification. She said to look for peeling paint, hanging gutters, damaged siding, broken windows, and fences needing repair.

"The great thing about this award is it inspires the community to take some extra time and make their properties look better," Blatchford said. "This makes Park Forest look better when everyone does their part to keep their property looking beautiful."

Beginning June 30 through July 13, judges will survey all entered properties. They will wear badges and display placards on their vehicle's dashboards. Blatchford said to be sure to say hello if you see a judge.
