Freedom Hall hosts an afternoon matinee honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan 15.
The Chicago-based group, The McNary Experience, will perform various music by Tina Turner, Barry White, Lou Rawls, and Aretha Franklin.
Cultural Arts Supervisor Victor Blackful said people can come out on their off day to enjoy great music and be educated about King's legacy.
"We've added a few new things at Freedom Hall, and this show on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one of them," Blackful said. "Folks will enjoy some great music, and also, during the show, we'll have some educational information for the audience so they can walk away learning something that perhaps they didn't know."
Blackful noted that some may not know that there's a room inside of Freedom Hall dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. He said the room is located on the second floor of Freedom Hall, and residents donated and contributed to create the room.
"We plan to showcase that room as well," Blackful said. "Again, the goal is to let folks have a great time and learn while doing so. King was and is such an influential person not just in Black history but American history"
Tickets are still available for $20 and can be purchased here. The event starts at 3 p.m. at Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Boulevard.
