What can you do to better conserve water?

Conserving water could mean some real savings for you and your family. Below are some things to consider.

• Plumbing fixtures installed before 1990 use 30-75 percent more water. Update your fixtures with EPA’s WaterSense certified fixtures to save the most water while maintaining top water performance.
• The average person takes 10-20 minute showers using between 25-37 gallons of water. Baths use 30-50 gallons depending on the size of your bath tub.
• Every minute your faucet runs you use 2.75 gallons of water. Consider turning off the water while you brush your teeth or lather your hands.
• You could be flushing money down the drain – on average people flush their toilets 5-7 times a day pre-1992 toilets you could be using 3-7 gallons per flush or 30+ gallons per day.
• Hand washing dishes vs. dishwashers? Dishwashers use only 10 gallons of water per cycle while hand washing your dishes use between 15-20 gallons.
• Each load of laundry you do uses between 30-50 gallons of water.
