The Park Forest Police Department, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will participate in a statewide effort to increase seatbelt usage and reduce the number of injury crashes over the Memorial Day holiday.
From May 9 to May 26, special enforcement efforts will include saturation patrols and several seatbelt safety zones throughout the village. Officers assigned to these details will be checking for occupant and child restraint violations, cell phone usage while driving violations, as well as other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Drivers and passengers are encouraged to always wear a seatbelt, not to use an electronic communication device while driving unless it is hands free, and never to drink and drive or drive while under the influence of any mind-altering substance. This campaign is possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
