WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop #185 is one of the longest standing organizations in the community; and
WHEREAS, Troop #185 is one of the last original scouting organizations serving the communities of Park Forest, Matteson, Olympia Fields and Richton Park; and
WHEREAS, the Troop was originally chartered at St. Paul Good Shepherd Church, it is still active in Park Forest at Grace United Protestant Church; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Boy Scout Troop #185 has guided 114 young men to Eagle Scout, the pinnacle of Boy Scouting; and
WHEREAS, hundreds, if not thousands, of youngsters have become assets to the Park Forest community as a result of the mission and purposes engrained by scouting such as courage, self-reliance, patriotism, character development, citizenship training, leadership development and mental/physical fitness training; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop #185 has furthered the mission of scouting, joining the legions of scouts across the country. Along the way, Troop #185 Scouts have logged more than 780 nights of camping and volunteered for more than 20,000 service hours; and
WHEREAS, the Sixty Fifth Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop #185 will be celebrated on March 26, 2024 at Grace United Protestant Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph A. Woods, Mayor of the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties, Illinois, do hereby proclaim on behalf of the Village Board of Trustees that the most sincere congratulations are to be extended to Boy Scout Troop #185 as it celebrates its 65th Anniversary. BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that Scoutmaster Daniel Chachakis and Senior Patrol Leader DeShawn Williams are to be commended for their diligence in working with the Scouting youth. The result of their efforts is that the Scouts of today become the leaders of tomorrow.
